COURSE SUMMARY

 

The FEC UX Design course is designed for middle and high school students to learn the UX design skills they will need for entrepreneurship. Throughout this course, students will learn and work through the entirety of the User-Centered Design process, which includes discovery, design and validation, and make presentation videos. By the end of the course, students will have:

 

  • Learned UX theories, design tools, and skills

  • Learned video presentation techniques

  • Demonstrated the knowledge through a project

  • Received a UX design course certificate

 

DURATION & DATES

 

  • Generally meets for a total of 5 sessions

  • In the past, courses have been conducted on Wednesdays & Fridays

  • Courses tend to take place in the evenings between 5-7 PM PDT

 

Session 1: UX design & presentation video fundamentals

 

Learning Outcomes:

 

  • Understand the importance of UX design

  • Brainstorm and identify needs

  • Learn how to do research

  • Know how to sketch a wireframe

  • Learn VlogEasy and Descript to record Zoom Meetings

 

Deliverables: 

 

  • Identify a problem

  • Conduct research and

  • summarize results

  • Come up with a wireframe

  • Do 1 Zoom recorded user

  • interview

  • Create 2min edited video

  • explaining sketches

 

Session 2: Low-fidelity Prototype & Interview

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Plan and prioritize product features and create a user flow

  • Use Balsamig and Marvel to create a product mockup and low-fidelity prototype

  • Learn how to interview potential users and synthesize the information from interviews

 

Deliverables: 

  • Create with a mockup and low-fidelity prototype

  • Do 1 recorded user testing interview in Zoom where user tests Marvel prototype

  • Summarize customer insights from interviews in 1 min 

  • Vlog Easy video

  • Create 2 min edited video explaining the interactive prototype

Session 3: High-fidelity Product Prototype & User Testing

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Use Figma to create a high fidelity product prototype

  • Learn how to use Figma templates

  • Test the prototype

 

Deliverables: 

  • Design a high-fidelity prototype

  • Summarize customer insights from interviews in short VlogEasy video

  • Create 2 min edited video explaining figma prototype

 

Session 4: Graphic Design & Presentation Video

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Graphic design & presentation video

  • Graphic design basics

  • Polish the prototype

 

Deliverables: 

  • Create a prototype

  • Make a 4min presentation video

 

Session 5: Final Presentation

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • UX Design project and

  • Presentation

 

Deliverables: 

  • AUX Design project
